The JIS anchor (Stockless-A Type) is a Japanese Industrial Standard stockless anchor widely used on Japanese vessels. While it remains a standard choice for many applications due to its simplicity and compliance with JIS F3301, its holding power (coefficient ~2) is significantly lower than modern HHP anchors. Ongoing research continues to evaluate its performance across different seabed conditions to prevent anchoring accidents and improve safety
THe Hall anchor represents a historic milestone in maritime engineering as the first practical stockless anchor. Developed in the late 19th century, it solved the critical problem of anchor storage by allowing full retraction into the hawsepipe. Available in three types (A, B, C) and weights from 40 kg to 46 tonnes, Hall anchors remain widely used today as standard bow anchors on general merchant vessels. While modern High Holding Power anchors offer superior performance, the Hall anchor's reliability, simple handling, and compliance with international standards ensure its continued place in the global shipping industry
