Anchor chains are divided into two types based on their chain link structure: studlink and studless.
When the size and material are the same, the gear chain has less deformation, making it difficult to twist and entangle when stacked, and difficult to entangle when anchored, so it is widely used on ships.
 Anchor chains or accessories should undergo necessary heat treatment before conducting tensile tests, tensile tests, and mechanical property tests on finished anchor chain materials based on their grade and delivery status. All finished anchor chains shall undergo tensile and tensile tests in accordance with the relevant requirements and standards of the specifications

(1) Tensile test: It is a tensile test conducted on each loop of the entire chain. Each section of anchor chain should be tested on an approved testing machine according to the tensile load specified for the corresponding grade of anchor chain. During the experiment, the relative position of each chain link is correct, and there should be no twisting or twisting of the entire chain. After unloading the load, each anchor chain, including its size, should be inspected and there should be no obvious defects. The appearance, size, and relative flexibility of the chain links and accessories should be carefully inspected, and the permanent elongation should not exceed 5% of the original length.
(2) Tensile Broken test: One section of anchor chain should be selected from every four sections of anchor chain according to the specified sample quantity (AM2 and AM3 grade anchor chains should be grouped into batches of every four welded anchor chains); Each batch shall consist of no more than 4 anchor chains, and samples of no less than 3 chain links shall be cut and tested according to the tensile breaking load specified in the relevant specifications. The test chain link should be made in the same manufacturing process as the anchor chain and welded and heat-treated together with the anchor chain. The test link should be removed from the anchor chain in the presence of the surveyor.
 If the specimen does not break after applying the specified load, it is considered to have passed the test. If the tensile test does not meet the requirements, two more samples can be taken from the same section of anchor chain for testing. If they meet the requirements, the test is considered qualified. If the retest still fails, the section of anchor chain should be judged as unqualified. But according to the requirements of the manufacturer, the remaining three anchor chains can be subjected to tensile tests separately. If one of the test results does not meet the requirements, all three anchor chains are unqualified. If the mechanical properties of the chain link are not qualified, it can be resampled after heat treatment and retested once. If it still fails, the anchor chain section should be judged as unqualified.

Generally, anchor chain accessories should also undergo tensile and tensile tests in accordance with relevant regulations (except for those exempted by the classification society). Accessories that have undergone tensile tests are generally not allowed to be used again. After the anchor chain test is qualified, steel seal marks such as anchor chain grade, certificate number, and classification society logo should be affixed to both ends of each anchor chain.
