Anchor Chain Proof Load

The anchor chain is divided according to the chain link structure, and the anchor chain is divided into two types: the chain with gear and the chain without gear. The size and material are the same, the deformation of the retaining chain is small, it is not easy to twist when stacking, and it is not easy to wind when lifting and dropping anchor, so it is widely used on seagoing ships.

Anchor chain or accessories shall be subject to necessary heat treatment before tensile test, breaking test and mechanical property test of finished anchor chain materials according to their grade and delivery status.

Tensile and breaking tests shall be carried out for all finished anchor chains according to relevant requirements and standards of the specification:

(1) Tensile test: it refers to the tensile test for each ring of the whole chain. Each section of anchor chain shall be tested on an approved testing machine according to the tensile load specified by the corresponding grade of anchor chain. During the test, the relative position of each link is correct, and the whole chain shall not be twisted. After unloading the load, each section of anchor chain, including its size, shall be checked without obvious defects. The appearance, size and relative rotation flexibility of links and accessories shall be carefully checked, and the permanent elongation shall not exceed 5% of the original length.

(2) Tensile test: one anchor chain shall be selected from every four anchor chains according to the specified number of samples (for AM2 and AM3 anchor chains, every 4 welded anchor chains shall be taken as a batch; each batch shall be no more than 4 anchor chains), samples of no less than 3 chain links shall be cut and tested according to the tensile breaking load specified in the specification. The test chain link shall be made in the same manufacturing process as the anchor chain, welded and heat treated together with the anchor chain. The test chain link shall be removed from the anchor chain in the presence of the surveyor.

If the sample does not break after the specified load is applied, it shall be deemed to have passed the test. If the tensile breaking test does not meet the requirements, two more samples can be taken from the same section of anchor chain for test. If the requirements can be met, it shall be deemed to be qualified. If the retest is still unqualified, the section of anchor chain shall be judged as unqualified. However, according to the requirements of the manufacturer, The other three anchor chains shall be subject to tensile test respectively. If one of the test results fails to meet the requirements, all three anchor chains shall be unqualified.

If the mechanical properties of the chain link are unqualified, it can be sampled again after heat treatment. If it is still unqualified after retest, the anchor chain shall be judged as unqualified.

Generally, the anchor chain accessories shall also be subject to tensile test and breaking test according to relevant regulations (except those exempted by the Classification Society). Generally, the accessories that have been subject to breaking test can not be used again.

After the anchor chain test is qualified, steel seal marks such as anchor chain grade, certificate number and classification society mark shall be marked on both ends of each anchor chain.
